This was definitely one of the most interesting elopements I've ever done. Shot entirely in the pouring rain! Jackie and Aaron are from LA, California (Peep the LOVE LA street sign in one of these shots later) and their parents were flying in to NYC to witness their union. Although the forecast had rain at 100%, their parents were only going to be in town this weekend - so we knew it was going to happen- rain or shine! We met at the Brooklyn Promenade; the officiant all ready, and everyone had armed with umbrellas! I was able to capture their adorable elopement in the rain, surrounded by their family and friends and it was AWESOME! It was whimsical, romantic, fast paced and definitely the kind of day you'd remember!! Despite the weather, there was a gorgeous backdrop and a lot less people walking around the park (which was really helpful!!) Jackie and Aaron were all up for everything!! Their upbeat spirit and willingness to get amazing shots DEFINITELY made it all worth it!! I had so much fun with them and was so thankful that despite some unforeseen circumstances- they were still able to have fun and enjoy their day!!! Photographing in New York, you really never know what you’re going to get! I was super excited to blog this New York City elopement and hope you guys will enjoy it too!! #iLOVENY !!
NYC Brooklyn Bridge Park / DUMBO Engagement Photography Session
Jihyoung & Paul were going to have their wedding in Korea but before that, they wanted to do their engagement photography session at the Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo! It was an amazing choice! This park always has the best views and edgy NYC backdrops! I personally love shooting here! They brought along their little pup and we roamed around. Our session included Ice cream from Mister Softee (only the best!!!), lobster rolls from Luke’s Lobster, Jane’s carousel lit up in the background and the New York City Skyline hovering behind a beautiful Brooklyn pier. This is honestly such a great location in New York City to have any type of photo session done! II had a lot of fun with them— so much that we actually did another photography session in the west village with them!! (But that will be on another blog post in the future!)
A Sweet Elopement at Fort Tryon Park Amidst the Corona Virus Pandemic
The corona virus pandemic took NYC by storm. By mid march, everything was shut down- restaurants, bars, companies were all working remote and all services were all on halt- including all nyc wedding photographers and the New York City Hall Wedding Bureau!! Everything just froze in time… and it seemed that no one would be getting married in nyc anytime soon. It was a time of so much uncertainty. But we overcame!!! NYC took precautions, played it safe and we started to flatten the curve! By late June, we were already in Phase 2 of re-opening- which meant: NYC weddings + photography were allowed to happen!!! (IN SMALL GROUPS while practicing social distancing and mask-wearing! :D) …. And I got SO lucky to meet Minji & Don! They wanted to have their intimate ceremony at Fort Tryon Park on the Upper West Side of New York City. It was going to be a small little group and they would have a camera set up to broadcast to more friends & family via zoom. It was a SUPER sweet ceremony. Beautiful music (played off a speaker by a close friend) and some heart warming speeches to their parents. I loved the way Don looked so lovingly at Minji at all moments of the ceremony and I loved that I was able to capture this sweet, sweet moment in time!! I am so thankful to have been part of this celebration- it was more of a blessing to myself more than I think even Minji & Don realized! I was separated from my craft— my passion—my joy and source of creativity for months without any real hope or idea of what would happen next— so be able to photograph this wedding brought me BACK TO LIFE!!! I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue to do what I love in this great city. I know we’re not through this pandemic yet— but I am thankful that with proper care and guidelines we can have these moments again.
And with that… I will share with you guys some of my favorite shots from their session!
